GF Experiment

(Day 16 of NaBloPoMo)

You may remember me posting about The Princess and her allergy testing back in February of this year. She was tested for celiac as well. Everything came back negative.

But, my Mommy Intuition has still been telling me that something is just not right with this little girl.

She cries A LOT.

She DOES NOT sleep well, EVER.

She wakes up crying EVERY.SINGLE.NIGHT.

She comes to my bed and sleeps with me. But she is not really sleeping. She tosses and turns and cries ALL. NIGHT. LONG.

We have pretty much cut out all dairy. She is on Prevacid for acid reflux. The only other thing I have thought could possibly be a problem is GLUTEN.

We had her tested.

She was negative.

BUT, some of you may have read that Sugar was also tested and was negative, 4 TIMES. Then she was positive. Celiac diagnosis confirmed. YEARS after Wendy KNEW she had it.

I need relief NOW. Not in YEARS. So, we are trying a GF diet for The Princess for at least the next week to see how she does. I went out today and bought lots of Gluten Free things to keep her fed for at least a week.

As much as I don't want this for her, I will do ANYTHING to make her feel better. She is miserable. And so are we. We all need a good night's sleep. Well, as good as it can get with Diabetes in the house too.

I will update next week after we do our experiment.

Even though I don't think that Lovebug has Celiac's, I have thought about trying it like you are. I am curious to see how it goes for you. Good Luck, I'll be praying you get the answers you need.

As the wife of a celiac, I have to let you that you actually have to live GF for 2-3 weeks to see a real effect. It can take up to 2 weeks to get gluten out of your intestinal track. If she is celiac, she might feel relief with in the week but to see real results you will want to extend your experiment for another week or so.

Also, keep in mind, if you choose to have her retested down the road, she will have to have gluten since a GF diet will render a false conclusion to the test.

Good luck! I have lots of GF recipes if you want them!

Oh...I was a little upset when I read about Sugars negatives before the positive. I had been suspecting something was up with Joe for awhile. To-date, he has tested negative for Celiac...my sister has it though. Please post on how this goes in a couple of weeks. (((HUGS)))

I have to be honest with you and say that doing the gluten free diet sometimes sucks my will to live, but it's like you said, anything for our kids!
My kids favorite GF recipe to date is chicken nuggets - cut the chicken into nugget size, dip them in egg and roll them in crushed up potato chips. Bake at 400 for 20 minutes. I tried making a GF batter and frying them and they liked them OK, but they LOVE these and they are much easier!
I have a friend whose two daughters were just like your describe your daughter and she went gluten free and did a bunch of other allergen testing and found out that she and her daughters were allergic to so many foods. It has been difficult for them to adjust, but her girls are so much healthier and happier now!
Good luck!
PS how old is the princess? My GI said that before age 3 is too early to test kids for Celiac?
