The Results are in...

Well, it was not a long wait! I got a call from the GI doc about The Princess' results this morning.

Negative. For EVERYTHING. She has a completely normal GI tract.

Now, don't get me wrong, this is GREAT news. BUT, that does not give me answers!

The doc says it COULD be just an allergy to wheat. She wants us to try a wheat free diet, without going completely gluten free. (not sure exactly how to do that yet).

We will follow up with her in December to see if The Princess is still having the same symptoms.

Do I try GF, wheat free, or just a normal diet? Could it just have been her ears that were bothering her for SO long?

Since the moment she started eating Cheerios and crackers I noticed her change. She was moodier, she sometimes would get red spots around her mouth. She became bloated. And we started Acid Reflux meds. Could all of that mean it is really just an allergy? Is it all in my mind?

So, now I sit here and question myself. Am I seeing things where there is nothing. Or is there really something going on? I feel so confused and a little lost in all this.

Trying to decide what to do next...

I'm sorry Tracy! I mean, it's GREAT news! But it makes for tough decisions and I'm sorry about that. I will pray that you get answers and a clear direction for which way to go!

Ugh! I'm so sorry. I mean, I'm glad they didn't find anything, but that sure doesn't help clear anything up. I would honestly try the GF diet anyway, or as close to it as possible. If she was feeling better then you know SOMETHING in there was helping. There is nothing wrong with a GF diet just in case. She won't be missing anything important because obviously our bodies don't need gluten. I hope something works for her soon!

So sorry! That's got to be frustrating!

I am both happy and frustrated for you.

Here is my 2 cents for what ever it is worth. I would start by keeping a food journal. It could be that her digestive system is not mature enough to handle gluten or wheat in large quantities. David was that way with casein (milk protein). I have slowly been able to add it in to his diet in the last few months.

You are doing a great job! Good luck!

Oh no but oh thank goodness! I'm in the same
place with Maddison. No advice, just understanding!

It's so nice when results come fast and the waiting ends sooner than expected. But when the results don't really help...ugh... At least you know her GI tract is normal. That's a good thing.

I was going to suggest the same as Heidi - a food log/journal. Maybe you'll begin to notice a pattern and maybe you'll get to the bottom of this on your own.

Keep us posted!

Oh Tracy - good news...and frustrating all at the same time. I'm not help in the wheat vs. gluten department...but I bet Wendy can guide you on that one.

Good news! I know how frustrating it can be though. I have no experience with celiac or gluten free...however, I have been told that I have an intolerance to milk and wheat. Years ago this is what I did that helped me...I started by completely removing the "suspect" things. I had hives and swollen joints daily, so I did this for 3 months before I noticed a change. Once the symptoms seemed to lessen, I gradually re-introduced these things, but in a rotating fashion. For example, if I ate anything containg wheat, I did not eat anything else with wheat for 3 days. Same with milk products. I did this for a while and then I would test myself. I might eat an item with wheat 2 days in a row. I was logging everything I ate and any symptoms..even if I thought I was imagining symptoms!! It really helped me to find the things that bother me the most. Today I eat whatever I want. But sometimes I can "feel" the hives coming on, so I back off of wheat and dairy for a few days, rotating again. Hope you find something that works for your princess and makes you feel comfortable too.
