All Consuming

** BIG GIVEAWAY ANNOUNCEMENT COMING..... TOMORROW! COME BACK TO FIND OUT DETAILS!!! **

(NaBloPoMo Day 11)

It is sadly true that Diabetes is ALL CONSUMING.

It takes over every part of our lives and there is nothing we can do about it.

So, we post on facebook, we blog, we share, we educate because we are seeking SUPPORT from those who truly and fully understand what we go through each and every day.

We seek support from those who are genuinely interested in learning more about all of it.

So if you get tired of reading/hearing about Diabetes, I am NOT sorry.

This is something that we deal with ALL day, EVERY day.

You have things going on in your life that you feel are important or that consume all of you.

I have Diabetes to consume me.

I don't like it.

But, I have no choice.

It is here to stay and will continue consuming my life.

Every time we go to the park. To school. To the store.

Every time we stay at home watching TV. Or play toys on the floor.

Every time I sit at the computer, Diabetes is still there.

So, I will continue seeking support. I will continue to educate. I will continue to spread awareness.

Diabetes is not our life. But, it is a HUGE part of it.

Diabetes Fact #11: Diabetes is ALL consuming. It is NOT our life, but it is a HUGE part of it.

Diabetes Fact #10: Parents of children with Diabetes HATE when people say "I could NEVER do it!" when referring to the management of their kid's disease. In reality, YOU could, and WOULD do it if you HAD to. We probably had the same thoughts as you and now look at us, doing it 24/7.

Diabetes Fact #9: The term "Juvenile Diabetes" is outdated. We now call it "T1 Diabetes" or "Insulin Dependent Diabetes". People with this type of Diabetes will NEVER outgrow it. EVER. They will have this relentless disease until a CURE is found.

Diabetes Fact #8: A cure would be great, but a long life without complications is a close second for people with T1 Diabetes.

*Disclaimer: I am a mom of a T1 Diabetic child. I am NOT a doctor. I just play one in real life. Please do not take anything in this post or any other post on this blog as medical advice. If you have questions or concerns of your own, please seek advice from your doctor.*

HI FIVE! SO TRUE!!!!!! It is all consuming all the time....and folks who don't get it should just be thankful that it only takes up 2 minutes of their day to read our updates.....

That is just SO exactly how I have been feeling! Diabetes is just all up in everything and we are all tired of it, even just after 2.5 months. But there is absolutely NOTHING we can do about it! I have been wondering if it ever becomes less consuming. If you ever just get used to it but it doesn't "bleed" into every single part of your life. I thought maybe it was just because we were in the middle of a fundraising event and talking about it a lot, but I as long as we need a cure we will always be in the middle of some kind of event or advocating in someway. But last night when Aiden told me that he "didn't want to be diabetes anymore." It just broke my heart! I just wanted to say screw diabetes and take him for some ice cream. Then we got a BIG ol' 415 for the dinner time blood sugar and that shot that all to heck... Anyway, I am venting, but thank you for your post! It really helps to know that I am not the only one!

So very true!! I don't think people get how truly consuming it really is.

Even when we are away from our D kids, it is still with us. The worries, the wondering.
@Leigh-I am sure the other Dmamas will agree, it does get easier. We all use our blogs to vent our frustrations but most of the time, we are enjoying life with our children regardless of what D says. We mostly try to have a good attitude, some days that is easier than others. There are days when D is just part of the background, other days when it is screaming for attention. It will consume you if you let it. And yes, it is toughest when you are fundraising because you have to put it all out there for others to try to understand. D will make you stronger and when you aren't feeling so strong...we are all here to hold you up!!

@Leigh, We are 2 years into this and Diabetes still consumes so much of what we do. We move through each day trying not to let D take over, but it is always there. It is definitely more consuming during fund raising, or during months like this when all we are doing is posting and thinking about Diabetes.

Suddenly, I have "C-O-N-S-U-M-E that is what it does to me" rolling through my head to the tune of R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
