Another illness update

I wish I could be posting that we ALL feel 100% better, but, we are not.

I went to the doctor on Monday and was told I had bronchitis. Antibiotics started and I definitely am feeling better. not completely, but better for sure.

The Superhero is still on his antibiotics for the sinus infection. He is about 7 days in of the 30 day regimen.

The Princess, well, she is NOT better. Not completely anyway. I took her to the doctor on Monday and she was put on antibiotics for bronchitis. We also started up her breathing treatments again, every 4 hours, around the clock.

She was not getting enough better by yesterday (Wednesday) so I called and made her an appointment for this morning to get back in with the doctor. I was thinking she might have pneumonia, but I wasn't sure. She seemed to be breathing more shallow than normal and taking more breaths than normal. I had a HARD time sleeping last night. She was in bed with me and I just listened to her breathing all.night.long.

Took her in this morning and her lungs sounded great. I had done her breathing treatment not long before we had gone in. I went ahead and asked for the chest x-ray to ease my mind about the pneumonia. We went over to the radiologist and had her x-ray done. (this is where they place her in this barbaric looking contraption I had never seen prior to the last few x-rays she has had done, it works well at holding her still though)

We came home so she could eat lunch and nap. Then I got the call. It was our awesome nurse from the peds office calling to let me know the pneumonia was NEGATIVE. Which is GREAT news.

Then there was a BUT. Isn't there always?

BUT, she does have asthma. Keep the breathing treatments up every 4 hours. (paraphrased, of course)

She may be able to come off them for a while when she is feeling better. We will just have to see how she does. The air quality is POOR here in AZ which does NOT help.

Sigh.

So, now we have asthma to deal with and worry about. It had been mentioned previously since she has had issues in the past, but usually they don't actually "say" it until they are a little older.

Never a dull moment in the house with The Superhero and The Princess.

Oh man. Im sorry youre still dealing with all the illness.

Synsyre had a lot of issues before moving here with his asthma and allergies. He has a nebulizer and was on about 8 medications. Didnt help. At one point they said he was fine and it was just a cold...105 fever and pnuemonia which caused a collapsed lung 2 days later. Sorry point Alexis? My mom made this concotion and its amazing. Echinchea, Olive Leaf and vit c. We mixed it all in honey couch syrup. It doesnt mask anything but actaully gets rid of it. Worth a shot? Any health food store should have it. Also try Sambuccol as a daily regime..

I tend to feel like asthma is another one of those dx that gets the "it's only" attitude. In reality, asthma is very serious, but I think it gets the shaft.

Breathing treatments around the clock, frequent courses of steroids, and susceptibility to lung infections is certainly nothing to take lightly.

I'm sorry you got this news today...and I'm praying things ease up SOON.

I'm so sorry Tracy. I'm glad you've got answers, but it sucks to know this is something she'll have to deal with for a long time.

ACH!!!! I am bumming for you and the Princess! I have asthma...had it since I was around 7 or 8. I totally agree with Wendy. Asthma gets the SHAFT big time...and it is not something that should be taken lightly. It is the airway for crying out loud. Hang in there and I am sending love and healing vibes your way.

Oh no Tracy! You just can't catch a break, can you? First, I hope that you feel better soon! And second, I am sorry about the Princess' asthma dx. :( Hoping that at least they will find the right treatment for her and she will be feeling better too.

I'm so sorry to hear that Tracy. My son had it as a baby and grew out of it. It was awful! I would stand over his crib at night watching his labored breathing and cry. It wasn't quite as stressful as D but at that time in my life I was so young and remember being so scared. Your family will be in my prayers as you work hard to manage this. ((hugs))

Oh Tracy . . . . I just don't know what to say. Yes, asthma is a very serious illness and just because they have treatments it doesn't make it menial. Adding your illness to the mix and it sounds like you need a major does of rest and relaxation. Any light at the end of the tunnel?????

Ohhhhh TRACY! Im so sorry! Asthma IS another disease that is TOTALLY overlooked as far as severity :( I used to work for a pulmonologist and would see the littlest ones with asthma all the time, so we do the Asthma walk every October! My Niece was dx'd with Asthma last year at the age of 18 months, so far she has done awesome thanks to an amazing PCH doctor. :) ((HUGS))
