A few weeks ago as I was working I heard a seemingly familiar beeping behind me.
I instinctively asked The Superhero to come over so I could check Dexie.
I wasn't really paying attention and just assumed that was the beeping I was hearing. Of course, I usually recognize the "beep, beep" for a high, and the "beeeep, beeeep, beeeep" for a low or dropping.
So, this time when The Superhero came over to me to show me Dexie, I expected one of these messages. To my surprise, there was NO message on Dexie and his BG was fine. I thought that I must have just been hearing things and went back to working.
Then I heard it again. This time I checked the pump. No alerts. Weird. Back to working again.
Then I heard it again. What? What is that darn beeping!? Then it hit me. It was The Superhero's Leapster Explorer video game! Whatever game he was playing had beeping in it.
I think it is cRaZy how a little beeping can instantly make me think "diabetes". I also think it is interesting how when I ask The Superhero to let me see Dexie, he just automatically comes over to show me.
I find it interesting how as D Mamas (and dads or PWD) are just wired to think this way.
Our brains are wired to "think" diabetes.
Our ears are wired to "hear" diabetes too.

SO TRUE!!
I totally understand. I heard beeping the other night while in bed so I jumped up to check Dex. Everything was fine as then I realized it was actually the dryer beeping. It wasn't even the same kind of beep! But I was half asleep so I just assumed.
On that same note, every time I see a number I think BG. A FB friend posted a status with 58 in it the other day. At first glance I assumed it was a BG reading but she was actually talking about the weather! lol
D is always on our minds first!
Yes, I know what you mean! I was telling a co-worker/friend about how I feel hungry when I'm high...I knew SHE knew what I meant, but I quickly explained it in case anyone at work was listening in and thought maybe I was talking about drugs!
YUP! Totally agree...spot on!
I was in a large public restroom the other day with my girls...I think there were at least 8-10 stalls. Anyway, I kept hearing a beeping noise and asked Sugar through the stall if she could check her pump/Dex. She hollered back "It's not MY pump. It's someone else's."
Her brain had already "gone there" and assumed any random beeps from the bathroom must be a diabetes device someone else was wearing!
tonight the dexcom gave us ????'s and DD tried to bolus a correction off the last BS (over and hour ago and 300's). I about lost it. I had to argue with her not to do it...started to think she was low even. In the end she canceled the correction and said she would wait until later to check BS...now home and the BS was 130 so good thing she canceled it.
I also here beeps and think it's my pump! you're def not alone on this one :-D
Hehehehehehee. Pavlovian response is there ever was one! F-U-N-N-Y
Ha ha! That's happened to me before, too. Funny!
Been there- checked that! We've got the D brain!
Ugh - I do that all of the time!! Too funny! Same!
Have totally been there, done that, as well! :) Only Sugar Boy has now gotten to where he will tell me, "MOM!! Its NOT Linkie! Its just the TV (or his game, or whatever)" Cracks me up.
I hear beeping all the time. It drives me nuts!
So funny! My son has a game he plays in the car and it has sirens in it. Every time I hear it, I'm looking in all my mirrors thinking a police car or ambulance is coming up on me.lol
omg this happened last week while watching a movie! I jumped up and went to grab Dex nothing. Pump nothing.
Stupid cell phone! lol
